Frequently Asked Questions About Hiring Us

How do I know if my film needs professional color grading?

Color grading is essential for your film to have a polished, professional look. Even if your footage looks good straight out of the camera, professional grading can elevate it to another level, enhancing your film's visual storytelling and emotional impact.

How do I choose the right colorist for my project?

You can look for a colorist with a portfolio matching your experience and the style and aesthetic you aim for in your film. It's also essential to communicate your vision and expectations and ask for references or examples of previous work.

What should I expect during the color grading process?

The color grading process typically involves several stages, including initial consultation and assessment of your footage. This is followed by color correction and grading sessions, during which you'll work closely with the colorist to achieve the desired look for your film. You should expect to provide feedback and be actively involved in decision-making.

How long does the color grading process take?

The time required for color grading can vary depending on the length and complexity of your film, as well as the specific requirements of your project. It's best to discuss timelines and deadlines with your colorist upfront to ensure that expectations are clear and realistic.

What format should I provide my footage in for color grading?

When working with a colorist, it's important to provide high-quality, uncompressed, or lightly compressed video files in a format such as ProRes 422 or DNxHD. We will provide you with a document to send us your files and what we expect. Providing the best source material is crucial to ensuring optimal results during the grading process.

How much will it cost to grade my film?

The cost of color grading can vary depending on factors such as the length and complexity of your film, the experience level of the colorist, and the specific services required. It's best to ask for quotes from several colorists and discuss your budget and expectations upfront to ensure transparency and avoid surprises later on.

Can I give you reference images I like?

We highly recommend providing us with the content you want to use in your project, as it helps us create the desired look and feel. If you want to blend elements from multiple images or have a specific final look in mind, we will work diligently to make sure you're able.

Will I have input into the final color grade for my film?

Yes, absolutely! Your input and feedback are crucial throughout the color grading process to ensure that the final result aligns with your vision and expectations for your film. A good colorist will collaborate closely with you to achieve your project's desired look and mood.
